Site Navigation - "Button" Definitions - Walk Through

All measures were adopted to ensure the Express Publishing "graphical user interface" or "GUI" is as accessible as possible for all audiences, including those with visual impairments or other disabilities.

We have in doing so made use of 3 types of "buttons" or "links" on the site that make use of a high contrast of colours to assist users with colour blindness.

The above is a "screen shot" of the catalogue page of the site detailing the button types defined below

The "buttons" or "links" on this site make use of the following "states" of use which are defined as follows:

Normal State – This is the state of a button (pictured left) when the page opens and there is no interaction between the button and the mouse pointer.

Hover State – This is the state of a button (pictured left) when the there is interaction with the button and the mouse pointer. This also gives you a visual indicator that you have started to interact with a button and the mouse pointer changes and becomes a "hand".

Active State – This is the state of a button (pictured left) when there has been interaction with the button (clicked on) using the mouse pointer. I.e. when the button has been clicked and the link to a page has been completed. This also gives you a visual indicator that you are currently using a page or in the case of a main link that opens to another "sub page" or "sub category" that you are still in the same main category.

The "buttons" or "links" on this site take on the following three forms and are listed below so as to improve the user experience of this site:

Catalogue Search Navigation Button – Takes
you to your chosen country. The button has
parts that require interaction to complete
the task:

1. The downward pointing arrow when
clicked on shows you a list of all the
available countries. Should your
country not be on this list you may
select "International" this will show
you all the available international
books.

2. You then need to click on the "Go"
button to enter your selected country.
